Please read our conditions of participation, refunds, & other info before registering or signing up for membership. These policies apply at RCS and RCC.

RCC offers a vibrant community setting and a wonderful facility to continue your independent ceramic practice. Potters or sculptors with experience working without instruction are welcome to apply.

Rain City Clay Affiliates receive ongoing monthly, 24/7 access to studio space in the basement at Rain City Clay. This access continues during breaks between studio sessions. Each participant receives a generous personal storage area and shelf for storing works in progress, and access to community overflow storage. Participants will fire their ceramic work with the community firings at RCC.

We intend to invite 5 applicants for this new program for 2025.

As a member you receive

  • Storage Space: 12” x 12” Personal cubby for tool storage & personal shelf for storage of work in process in the Rain City Clay Basement.

  • Equipment Access: Access to potter’s wheels, extruder, slab roller, spray booth, studio glazes, & a well maintained ceramics studio. These items are all available in the basement.

  • Participation in Class Firings:
    Your artwork will be processed with class firings. Affiliates do not receive private access to kiln firing at this time.

  • 24/7 Studio Access and Practice Hours:
    Studio 24/7 Access at Rain City Clay - including during studio breaks. Members will receive a door code to enter the studio for their personal use only.

    • During 10 Week Studio sessions: Affiliates may use the classroom when classes are not in session. The basement space may be used 24/7.

    • The upstairs practice room is always reserved for students and independent study folks.

    • During Studio Breaks: Affiliates cannot use the classroom or upstairs practice room. The basement space may be used 24/7 during studio breaks.

  • Access to our Clay Q&A Platform with informative articles, videos, and feed to ask questions.

  • Belong to a vibrant clay community of people with different skills and interests in clay!

  • Participation in exhibitions and pottery sales (optional).

Requirements for participation

  • Previous experience with RCC or RCS

    • Must have taken at least three sessions at Rain City Clay, or 6 months of participation at Rat City Studios.

  • An ability to work on your own - you need to be self-motivated

    • If you need additional support you may purchase individual lessons.

    • Affiliate participation does not come with any kind of instruction. If you would like to gain skills, individual lessons may be purchased and arranged.

  • Thorough clean up habits

  • MUST use in-house clay

    • Clay must be purchased from the studio. Your firings and in-house glazes are included with your clay purchase fee.

    • We offer several slips to vary your clay color palette

  • Keep projects under 15” in any direction

  • Follow safety standards shown to you in the tour

    • Locking up, appropriate use of equipment, and adhering to community guidelines.

  • Foster a welcoming atmosphere for other studio artists or participants.

  • Communication using the Clay Q&A Platform

    • in-house, online network using the Mighty Networks App, used for communication and information sharing at RCC.

  • Enthusiastically participate in Clay Q&A!

    • This is where everyone may ask questions, communicate challenges, or celebrate success! All studio communication about kilns and studio flow are here.

Required Application Materials

  • Timeline:
    Application Due Saturday, October 26th 9pm/ Notification November Friday 1st

  • Images of ceramic artwork made within the last year (5 images)

    • Cut and Paste a URL to Instagram, webpage, and/or Dropbox folder.

  • Resume of participation in clay-related events (maximum 1 page)

    • Classes, studio memberships, shows, volunteering at clay events, etc.

  • One Professional Reference

    • Include current phone number and email of 1 reference, and your relation to them.

    • These could include current or past instructors or a mentor.

  • Statement of Intent (1000 words or less)

    • Share why you are a great fit to be a Rain City Affiliate! We want to hear about your experience working/volunteering in a ceramics studio, your history of education/ classes in ceramics, your interest in building community, and how you will benefit from being an affiliate at Rain City Clay.

FEES

  • $75 Initial Set up Fee

  • $185 Monthly Payment

    • These payments are automatically withdrawn.

    • Your timely payment holds your access to the studio and RCC Affiliate benefits.

    • You may cancel at any time.

    • There are no refunds or prorations if you have paid for a month. Cancel before your automatic payment if you want to stop your participation at RCC.

    • We reserve the right to change RCC Affiliate access or fees as needed.

  • $75 Re-Set-Up Fee
    If your membership is canceled due to insufficient funds, or an expired or declined card, you will have to pay the set up fee again to retain your membership
