Wheelthrowing

$485.00

Instructor: Ryan McDonald
Dates: June 19th-August 21st, 2026
Time: Fridays, 6:00pm-9:00pm
Fees: $485 (does not include tools, clay, or sales tax)

This continuing wheel class with Ryan McDonald focuses on refining functional forms and developing strong surface techniques. Students will work on creating consistent shapes while improving skills like handle pulling, carving, and working with slips. Emphasis will be placed on efficient throwing—moving clay from the foot into the walls—and building confidence in repetition. Participants will have the special opportunity to fire two cups in the soda kiln at our sister studio Rat City Studios. (They will be glazed at RCC with a special selection of glazes and brought as a group over to RCS before the soda-firing). This class is ideal for students ready to strengthen their fundamentals while adding more intention and character to their work, and for those who want a taste of the soda-kiln!

About Ryan Mcdonald (he/him):
I create functional pottery with the intent to transform everyday moments into experiences of delight and connection. Each piece bears the mark of my hands and carries the essence of the earth, a testament to the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest from which much of my work is inspired. Through deliberate carving and intuitive design, I seek to encapsulate the region’s vibrant beauty, inviting users to engage mindfully with their surroundings.

In a world marked by chaos and uncertainty, my pottery serves as a conduit for moments of respite and celebration. Whether it’s a morning cup of coffee shared with a loved one or a quiet moment of reflection at day’s end, my creations are vessels for sharing, gratitude, and joy. I aim to craft not just objects, but experiences—tangible reminders of the beauty that surrounds us and the boundless potential for wonder in the ordinary.
