Community Workspace

RCC offers a vibrant community setting and a wonderful facility to continue your independent ceramic practice. Potters or sculptors with experience working independently are welcome!

Rain City Clay members receive month-to-month, 24/7 studio access at Rain City Clay. This access continues during breaks between regular 10-wk and 11-wk studio sessions.

As a member you receive

  • Generous studio access hours
    24/7 during breaks

    Time slots are scheduled online through our Clay Q&A platform. There are no practice hours during studio events or studio maintenance dates. The downstairs workspace is always available, and practice time should be scheduled.

  • Storage Space:
    12” x 12” Personal cubby for tool storage & personal shelf for storage of work in process

  • Equipment & Tool Access:
    Access to potters wheels, extruder, slab roller, spray booth, studio glazes, & a well-lit and maintained ceramics studio. We have some community handtools, plastic, rolling pins, bats, boards, ect.

  • Monthly Firings:
    Artwork fired for you as the ware carts fill. We fire Bisque Kilns to Cone 06 and Glaze Kilns to Cone 6. These are listed on an in-house Google Calendar for easy planning. Frequency of firing is dependent on studio workflow. If you are a production maker, additional support from you may be needed to load kilns, and/or fees may be incurred for high-volume projects as determined by the studio manager.

  • Storage Space - 12” x 12” Personal cubby for tool storage & personal shelf for storage of work in process in the Rain City Clay Basement.

  • Equipment Access - Access to potter’s wheels, extruder, slab roller, spray booth, studio glazes, & a well maintained ceramics studio.

  • 24/7 Studio Access and Practice Hours - Studio Access at Rain City Clay - including during studio breaks. Members will receive a door code to enter the studio for their personal use only. This does not include access to Rat City Studios.

    • During 10 Week Studio sessions: Members may use the classroom during open studio, when a class is not actively happening. The basement space may be used 24/7.

    • During Studio Breaks: Members cannot use the classroom or upstairs practice room. The basement space may be used 24/7 during studio breaks.

  • Access to our Clay Q&A Platform with informative articles, videos, and feed to ask questions.

  • Belong to a vibrant clay community of people with different skills and interests in clay!

  • Participation in exhibitions and pottery sales (optional).

    • Community Cup Showcase - June, Jellyfish Brewing Co.

    • Holiday Show & Sale - December, at Rain City Clay.


Requirements for participation

  • Previous experience

    • Must have taken at least two classes, preferably with Rain City Clay, or 6 months of participation at Rat City Studios.

  • An ability to work on your own

    • Membership does not come with any kind of instruction. Staff are available onsite usually 9am-5pm, and are available for basic questions. If you would like to gain skills or need hands-on help, individual lessons may be purchased and arranged.

  • Thorough clean up habits

  • MUST use in-house clay

    • Clay must be purchased from the studio. Your firings and in-house glazes are included with your clay purchase fee.

    • We offer several slips to vary your clay color palette

  • Keep projects 15” and under in any direction

  • Follow safety standards shown to you in the tour

    • Locking up, appropriate use of equipment, and adhering to community guidelines.

  • Foster a welcoming atmosphere for other studio artists or participants.

  • Communication using the Clay Q&A Platform

    • in-house, online network using the Mighty Networks App, used for communication and information sharing at RCC.

  • Enthusiastically participate in Clay Q&A!

    • This is where everyone may ask questions, communicate challenges, or celebrate success! All studio communication about kilns and studio flow are here.


FEES

  • $75 Initial Set up Fee

  • $185 Monthly Payment ($195 if you would like extra storage/ $215 a month for a XL cubby per month)

    • Payments are automatically withdrawn monthly on the date of your initial online registration.

    • Your timely payment holds your access to the studio and RCC Membership benefits.

    • You may cancel at any time.

    • There are no refunds or prorations if you have paid for a month. Cancel before your automatic payment if you want to stop your participation at RCC.

    • We reserve the right to change membership access or fees as needed, with notice.

  • $75 Re-Set-Up Fee
    If your membership is canceled due to insufficient funds, or an expired or declined card, you will have to pay the set up fee again to retain your membership
