Dates: January 7th-March 18th, 2026
Time: Wednesdays, 5:00pm-7:00pm

Beginning Wheel Throwing
Join Brooke Felix for a welcoming introduction to wheel throwing, ideal for beginners new to clay or those looking to build on the basics. You’ll learn the essentials—wedging, centering, pulling walls, trimming, and adding handles—while making functional pots you can truly use. Along the way, Brooke will share her love of slip and narrative surface, offering creative ways to personalize your work. With clear instructions and lots of encouragement, this class is all about building strong foundations and enjoying the process of making.
All Levels Welcome! You must be 15+ years of age to participate. This class is a great fit for those wanting to grow their skills with an instructor present to ask questions. There is a 15” maximum size, in any direction, when creating with clay at RCC.
Materials: Clay is $40 for new clay or at times we have recycled clay for sale for $20. This is a separate purchase from your class fee. Purchase clay ahead of time HERE.
Bring an apron, comfy clothes, a quart-sized container (like a yogurt container), and a beginner's set of tools to the first class.
Tool kits are available for purchase online or at Seattle Pottery Supply or Clay Art Center. Or here is another option on Amazon. The class fee includes all glazing materials, firings, and generous open-studio access for practice time.
About Brooke Felix (she/her):
Born in Southern California, Brooke is now a Washington state resident. In 2018 Brooke took a college course in ceramics, which started her journey with clay. Now she’s a full-time artist. She shares her knowledge of clay through teaching kids and adults. Her love of sharing comes through as she prepares fun clay topics and projects, hoping that others may enjoy clay just as much as she does.
Brooke explores a fusion of memoryscape, intention, and vision. Adding pops of color with underglaze to pay homage to the urban LA and Seattle skyline, and using an earthy red and raw clay body, represents the Arizona desert. By making her vision come to fruition her goal is to have a place when your day begins, from a hot cup of tea to making a breakfast sandwich on a plate.
