Teaching at Rain City Clay
The following information is important for teaching at RCC.
Instructor Responsibilities
As an instructor, you are often guiding a person in their first experience with clay. It will often also be their first experience here at RCC. You are an ambassador for RCC and participants’ creative experience. Our classes are intended to be light-hearted, educational, and supportive.
This experience will be a success for the instructor when a sense of confidence is gained through repeat practice instructing techniques in clay, gathering people to give guidance, and managing time in a way that offers the participant both support and sticks to the target schedule. This event will be a success for the participant when they have a fun creative experience. It is our goal to leave participants feeling enthusiastic about working with clay and wanting to come back to RCC!
Scheduling
We offer short term classes to instructors once we have verified their teaching experience and fit with RCC. After we have decided if we will work together, you will be added to the RCC Instructor booking SLACK channel. We announce offerings and instructors write in with their interest on our "#instructor-booking Slack channel. We spread out opportunities among interested instructors. Each new instructor needs to teach at least one short event a month to stay on payroll.
The studio manager will print class rosters and fill in additional participants’ names if needed. It will be left in the instructor's mailbox.
Automatic email reminders are sent to instructors 1 week and 24 hours before the event via Google calendars.
In order to teach you must demonstrate to Deb Schwartzkzopf that you are comfortable:
shadow one of each before teaching: Sip n Spin, Individual Lesson, or Hang ‘n Handbuild

respect the space and the individuals within the community
clean up on time and leave the studio clean and ready for the next event
be timely in showing up on time and preparing for event
be responsible to close the studio within the allotted time
be excited to teach
Must have a minimum of 12 participants to run (five days before the date of the event)

Each instructor will be paid $40 an hour for teaching and $25 for shadowing.
