Join a short or longer class with a fabulous instructor or work at your own pace through independent study. Ten-week classes includes generous practice hours outside of class. One-day classes are a great way to see what clay is all about.
Projects are limited to 15” in any direction. We encourage consistent attendance—sessions move quickly, and there are no make-up classes. However, you can always use your practice time to connect with classmates and instructors to build on what you have learned.
All longer participants use Clay Q&A, our online communication hub for kiln schedules, asking questions, studio events, deadlines, resources, and community Q&A.

Wheel Throwing: Tableware
Wheel Throwing: Tableware
Instructor: Brooke Felix
Dates: Sept 16th-Nov 18th
Time: Wednesdays, 6:00pm-9:00pm
Fees: $485 (does not include tools, clay, or sales tax)
All Levels Welcome
This all-levels wheel throwing class focuses on creating handmade pots for the everyday ritual of setting the table. Through guided instruction and demonstrations, students will explore functional wheel-thrown forms designed for use—cups, bowls, plates, and serving pieces—while considering how these objects live together in a shared table setting.
Brooke encourages students to think beyond individual pieces and toward a cohesive body of work that reflects use, rhythm, and daily life. Whether you are new to the wheel or building on existing skills, this class offers a supportive environment to develop functional forms with intention, clarity, and care.
Join ceramic artist Brooke Felix for an all-levels wheel throwing class centered on strengthening core skills, refining technique, and developing a personal approach to functional pottery. Beginning students will focus on foundational methods such as centering, pulling walls, trimming, and forming essential shapes, while more experienced potters will be supported with individualized instruction aimed at improving control, consistency, and expanding more complex functional forms.
All Levels Welcome! You must be 15+ years of age to participate. This class is a great fit for those wanting to grow their skills with an instructor present to ask questions. There is a 15” maximum size, in any direction, when creating with clay at RCC.
Materials: Clay is $40 for new clay or at times we have recycled clay for sale for $20. This is a separate purchase from your class fee. Purchase clay ahead of time HERE.
Bring an apron, comfy clothes, a quart-sized container (like a yogurt container), and a beginner's set of tools to the first class.
Tool kits are available for purchase online or at Seattle Pottery Supply or Clay Art Center. Or here is another option on Amazon. The class fee includes all glazing materials, firings, and generous open-studio access for practice time.
About Brooke Felix (she/her):
Born in Southern California, Brooke is now a Washington state resident. In 2018 Brooke took a college course in ceramics, which started her journey with clay. Now she’s a full-time artist. She shares her knowledge of clay through teaching kids and adults. Her love of sharing comes through as she prepares fun clay topics and projects, hoping that others may enjoy clay just as much as she does.
Brooke explores a fusion of memoryscape, intention, and vision. Adding pops of color with underglaze to pay homage to the urban LA and Seattle skyline, and using an earthy red and raw clay body, represents the Arizona desert. By making her vision come to fruition her goal is to have a place when your day begins, from a hot cup of tea to making a breakfast sandwich on a plate.
